Here's the deal.

  1. Tor network

Torrenting on the tor network really is not a thing and is frowned upon by the maintainers as the network is kept online by volunteers, torrenting is quite the load on a network.

  1. VPN

There are free VPNs, but they often limit functionality (such as sockets and allowing torrenting) and going with a free VPN is just weird because they must sell data to make money and break even with server costs. Private Internet Access (PIA) is generally the best option for a paid VPN.

However, is it worth paying for VPN (that might be forced to give up data in the future by the government) just to torrent copyrighted media?

  1. Zero-upload

In Belgium, torrenting copyrighted media is legal for media you already own legitimately (for example, if you bought a DVD years ago and don't care to rip it). This is not the case with most media we (I) want to download. However, it is apparently so that you will not be prosecuted if you are not the one uploading the material. Is this a risk we are willing to make?

If so, is there a way to make use of the P2P network without uploading anything? Limit connection speed? Block outgoing packets?
